MIKE GOODRICK RECLAIMS THE PARTS OF HIMSELF HE WAS TOLD WERE HARD TO LOVE ON “SEE ME NOW”
The Arizona singer-songwriter’s third single since returning to original music turns the aftermath of a harmful relationship into a pop-rock “look at me now” moment.

PHOENIX, AZ - Arizona singer-songwriter Mike Goodrick returns September 4 with “See Me Now,” his third single since returning to original music after more than 15 years. The song looks back on a harmful relationship that left him questioning his self-worth, then contrasts that experience with finding a relationship where the same parts of himself are met with love instead of criticism.
At the center of the song is the repeated phrase “You should see me now.” While it can sound like a message to someone from the past, Goodrick says the song became more about recognizing how differently he sees himself now.
“At first, ‘you should see me now’ sounds like I’m saying, ‘Look what you missed out on.’ But I think it’s really about realizing that maybe all those things I was made to feel were wrong with me weren’t wrong at all. My wife loves me for a lot of the same things I was once told made me hard to love.”
- Mike Goodrick
Musically, “See Me Now” starts with acoustic guitar and Goodrick’s vocal before opening into a full-band first chorus. The arrangement pulls back again in the bridge with acoustic guitar and strings, then builds through the final chorus as Goodrick’s vocal becomes increasingly strained before breaking into a near-yell at the song’s peak. The track draws from the melodic pop-rock and emo influences of Knox, Mayday Parade, Boys Like Girls, and The Maine.
Goodrick wrote the song and performed the vocals and acoustic guitar. Derek Moffatt at 608 Studios handled the remaining instrumentation, production, mixing, and mastering.
“See Me Now” follows “Songs I Still Skip” and “Try,” continuing Goodrick’s first run of original releases in more than 15 years. A self-produced music video will be released the same day, with an official lyric video to follow.
“See Me Now” is available September 4 on all major streaming platforms.
